Looking Back

From Dana
I know you would like to see pictures of China, but for the last two weeks we have been working on getting ready to start teaching. We have been doing Power Points and using pictures from our past to talk about life in the United States of America. This picture is over 44 years ago. The Udo & Donna Warten family before anyone was married.

I thought it would be fun to show you a picture of me when I was just a young thing who loved to dance. I think I just liked the costumes.
This is a picture of me when I was about 2 1/2. If I put a picture of Lily in here you would see we do look a lot a like.
Now I decided to add some pictures of those who came before us and see if any of you can see one of our children looking like them.
Grandpa Thelin
Grandpa Wartena

JayJared and his great grandfather Victor Thelin, Part of the reason we haven't been posting to the blog is that it hasn't been working right, hopefully it will be better and we can show you more of China. I will try to post- we will see.

CHINESE FISHING FLEET

ON THE DOCKS OF CHINA.

Dana talked this boat owner into giving us a ride around the Fishing Fleet and through the bay. It was a great experience... See the photos for the story and the video clips... They bay was full of trash and plastic and styrophome junk... Our little boat got hung up on a plastic bag in the prop...

We rode on this little boat for about an hour, around the fishing fleets and the bay. Very Interesting trip.

DAY ON THE BEACH = SUNBURN!

LIFE IS GOOD. We enjoyed Sanya and the boat rides and changing hotels. The Hotel we are checking into is in Shenzhen on the way home. It was called "The Wealth Hotel".

DANA LOVES TO BUY HATS. SHE ENDED UP WITH THREE OF THEM THIS DAY AND JAY MADE HER WEAR ALL OF THEM FOR THIS PHOTO.

OUR WIRELESS SERVER IS UP AND SERVING AGAIN.
PLEASE CHECK THE PAST THREE POSTS FOR NEW PHOTOS AND INFORMATION...

DAY ON THE BEACH!
Somehow everytime we tried to post a picture on our blog, the server went off, so now we will write about this day at the beach. We left everything we thought might make us feel bad if we got our pack taken and headed to the beach. Jay spent the day in the ocean swimming and frolicing and just trying to get little tan. I put on sun screen, but he couldn't see any color so he didn't. After about 3 hours of playing in the water, which is really warm, we went up to Russian Hotel that was right off the beach with trees and bushes around it and played in their pool for another hour. There were only 5 other people there. It was nice because we got the salt water cleaned off. But then one of the hotel people gave us a note in English telling us that we couldn't stay if we weren't guests at the hotel. They had checked at the desk and no white people were registered.

Feeling a little singled out, we left the pool and headed down to the Russian section of the beach. It was really fun this day because Jay saw a Finnish flag in a store window and went right in and was able to talk to the Finnish clothing store owner in Finnish. He just went right on talking in Finnish with him for some time. We went back two days later and talked to 2 more Suomalisia, people from Kotka, Finland. Jay did such a great job with their language.

When we got home that night the pinkish tan color that Jay was hunting for was there. He was so burned and did that hurt. I just tanned a little and was fine. It was a good thing I put SP20 sunscreen on his nose that day or he would not have a nose left on his face.

WE'RE HOME IN JINAN.

SUNBURNED IN SANYA ... BUT FINALLY HOME.

THIS WAS A LITTLE PAINFUL, A PRETTY GOOD SUNBURN...BUT TELL TALE OF THE EXPERIENCE IN THE TROPICS, CLEARLY CAUSED BY HAVING TOO MUCH FUN IN THE SUN AND SURF. WE REALLY ENJOYED BEING IN THE WARM OCEAN WATERS AND SWIMMING DURING THE WINTER.

SEE IF YOU CAN NOTICE ANY TICS ON THE LOTUS FLOWER BELOW. I DID NOT SEE THEM AS I WAS SHOOTING THE FLOWER, ONLY AS I POSTED THE PHOTO. WELL, SOME WILD LIFE IS ALWAYS NICE TO SPICE UP A PHOTO EH?

THESE PAL MARIA FLOWERS WERE REALLY REMINISCENT OF HAWAII, BUT THE FLOWERS BELOW I WONDER WHAT THEY ARE...

Hello Everyone.

We are home in Jinan safely and happily and simply unpacking. We have another week to prepare for English classes to begin.

Right now we are not able to post a lot of photos... as the internet is limited to us... however, we are able to write on our blog. For some reason the server/blog won't take our pictures well and just when we post photos, we are told that the post failed because we are disconnected from the internet. Someone is messing with us. We have limited the number of posts visible at one time on our blog to one to help it load faster. That may help and with smaller photos, that could help. When we get it figured out the new pictures will be back. Yes, we got one to post. Enjoy it while we try another...

We did have a wonderful month of traveling, for four weeks, through the South of China. Each day there was something new and exciting to see and do. Each place had its own wonderment to behold and we really saw some amazing things. Jay took so many pictures of colorful tropical flowers. It was Hawaii in Sanya.

We also loved the fruit and there were so many different kinds of new fruits there besides the coconut and pineapples which were everywhere for snacks. Some fruits we had never seen before, but there was also so many we just love. We would get a whole, pealed, ready to eat, ripe, sweet pineapple on a stick for .15 cents. Of course we enjoyed that almost every day.

A DAY IN LONG SHENG

RECENT PHOTOS:

This was our tour of the other side of Guilin and the mountains on the other side. It was a long and wonderful day, with lots and lots of climbing. I am going to publish this and will come back to add more to the pictures layout later. We have been working here at Fat Daddy's where there is free wireless internet, for 4 hours and now it is time to go enjoy the beach.

Love all of you lots, Dana The bus we went on this 10 hour trip. The tour guide could speak English, it was great.
The little down who had all these things for tourest.
A picutre of the rice fields we were going to visit.
More little twons and farms we drove past Every extra piece of ground is used for gardening.

Going higher into the mountains.

Getting ready to climb to the top.
At this point I decided to not climb to the top and dad went on with the new video camera.

You could ride up and down to the top of the hill for about 200 RBV - about $24.
There farm animals are at the bottom of the houses. Everything is build with lumber here.

I stayed with these ladies and bought a bag and then sewed it so it fit around my shoulders.
The only had two needles. One was really bad.

Going back down the mountain = we though this would be fun to build at the Homestead.
