HONG KONG DAY 2

HONG KONG --
NIGHT BOAT RIDE ON A CHINESE JUNQUE

This day was a special one. After spending the day in Hong Kong and riding the tram to the top of the mountain above Hong Kong, we had our first meeting that night with all the BYU China English teachers. It was so wonderful to be with those special people we have grown to love. It was such a great reunion and that night after a very short meeting, we all watched the Hong Kong Harbor Lazer Light show, from the Kowloon side of the bay. It was pretty cold that night. After it was over about 9:00 pm, Jay and I were walking along the pier and this large and awesome "Chinese Junque" boat stopped and docked there to unload passengers and we impulsively decided to take a ride and prepared to jump on it. While we were getting on we saw some missionaries getting off of it. One of the sisters was barfing over the side of the pier. One man on the side of this photo and the young man in the front & center of the photo, came running up and really wanted to be in our group photo and it was clear that they acted and smelled a little drunk, but we welcomed them. We took this picture and then immediatlely had the two of them turn around and we introduced them to the missionaries, and pointed out that all of them were named Elder. We said go get them Elders. That was such a great sight to see people who could show and tell who they were in this part of Hong Kong, China.
We took the group picture, said our goodbyes and
then jumped on the boat. They said we could just pay on the boat. After we were on our way, we paid and then discoverd that we, Jay an Dana Thelin, were the only people on the boat except for the captain and the crew of about 8. For one hour we sailed from one end of Victoria Harbor around and back with the harbor lights and the lights of the city brightly shining, and on to the other end. We moved around and tried sitting in every part of the boat, downstairs, middle floor, front deck and the top deck. The lights, the mood, the company and the trip were
all so unique and wonderful.

That is super cool that you had your own private boat ride. What fun.

I hope those missionaries convert those drunk guys.

The church makes this such a small world...isn't that wonderful.

It sounds like the boat ride was sort of romantic! How fun for you and Jay.
